Thank you for your interest in the Southwest Wine Center. The Viticulture and Enology Program at Yavapai College is a fully immersive experience. Our program equips students with a solid academic foundation alongside practical, hands-on experiences that arm students with the skills to pursue a career in the burgeoning Arizona Wine Industry. With both degree and certificate paths, students can focus on either Viticulture (science of the vine) or Enology (science of winemaking) or learn the entire spectrum through the Associate of Applied Science. The AAS in Viticulture and Enology Degree provides more than just lectures. Throughout the curriculum and cellar/vineyard based practicums, students gain an understanding of the full scope of vineyard cultural practices/management all the way through the full production cycle within the cellar. Within our 13 acre vineyard, students gain knowledge of soil science, water and integrated pest management practices that provide a unique opportunity to learn the correlation between vineyard management practices and wine quality. In our state-of-the art on-campus winery, The Southwest Wine Center, students work with the fruit that they’ve helped to cultivate. From harvesting of the fruit through the fermentation process, vessel management and lab analysis, students gain an understanding of best practices in wine production. Through the Tasting Room at the SWC, students also learn the direct-to-consumer facet of the wine industry inclusive of how to market and sell wine to the consumer. Our practical, hands-on approach to teaching, ensure students in the Viticulture and Enology Program receive a comprehensive education from vineyard to bottle.
