Throughout the curriculum and cellar/vineyard based practicums, students gain an understanding of the full scope of vineyard cultural practices/management all the way through the full production cycle within the cellar. Within our 13 acre vineyard, students gain knowledge of soil science, water and integrated pest management practices that provide a unique opportunity to learn the correlation between vineyard management practices and wine quality. In our state-of-the art on-campus winery, The Southwest Wine Center, students work with the fruit that they’ve helped to cultivate. From harvesting of the fruit through the fermentation process, vessel management and lab analysis, students gain an understanding of best practices in wine production. Through the Tasting Room at the SWC, students also learn the direct-to-consumer facet of the wine industry inclusive of how to market and sell wine to the consumer. Our practical, hands-on approach to teaching, ensure students in the Viticulture and Enology Program receive a comprehensive education from vineyard to bottle. We’ve created our press kit components to provide media interested in our story, reference documents that delineate our history and what we offer our students.

Southwest Wine Center is a Clarkdale, Arizona winery, tasting room, and teaching vineyard on Yavapai College’s Verde Valley Campus — within driving distance of Prescott, Flagstaff, and Sedona. The same property where students run their labs is where guests taste on the weekend.
